As cooling or compressing, a liquid may transform into a solid via glass transition or crystallization processes. These two processes are ubiquitous in nature and are crucial research topics in disciplines such as statistical physics, soft matter physics, and polymer physics. This seminar elucidates the intricate correlation between local plastic responses and dynamics in supercooled liquids of particulate systems, shedding light on the unique supercooled dynamics, notably the sub-Arrhenius behavior observed in cellular systems. In the context of crystallization/melting, this seminar discusses the methodology for identifying different phases in two dimensions, and demonstrates the crucial influence of attractive interactions and the relative fractions of components on the mechanism of two-dimensional melting.
