F(R) gravity theory predicts a new fundamental scalar field called scalaron. The scalaron field can be the origin of dark energy to explain the accelerated expansion of the current Universe. The scalaron field may receive sizable effects from the dynamics of matter fields in the early Universe, which can influence the standard cosmic history. We will discuss the scalaron dynamics in the early Universe and the possible impacts on the Hubble tension.
